Biography
Carissa Bonner, C.P.N.P., M.S., is a board-certified pediatric nurse practitioner who cares for patients at MidMichigan Community Health Services’ School Based Health Center in the Houghton Lake High School.
Carissa has always worked in pediatrics, beginning in pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplantation. “After working in the field of pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplantation, I wanted to be in the preventative side of healthcare to help children avoid disease and poor outcomes,” she said.
Philosophy of Care
Carissa’s approach to pediatrics is based on providing care and respect, while maintaining a listening ear. She also has a goal of empowering her community’s youth.
Starting with a thorough, well-thought-out evaluation, assessment and plan of care, she finds it satisfying to help a child or teen feel better, whether the problem is an ear infection or depression. She also likes to hear her young patients’ ideas and dreams for the future and have them feel important.
Outside of work, Carissa enjoys sports, including kayaking, biking, boating, horse showing, Red Wings hockey and cross country skiing.
She welcomes patients to her practice at the School Based Health Center in the Houghton Lake High School. To make an appointment, call (989) 366-2061.
